Senior citizens and disabled people are given Medicare Insurance which is provided by the government in the US. The Medicare insurance covers the costs which are related to all basic medical treatment for the senior citizens and the disabled. However, this insurance does not pay for all the costs sometimes making Medicare Gap Insurance necessary.

When you become eligible for Medicare coverage the government will provide Part A and Part B. Which will cover basic hospital and medical care.

Most people who meet the criteria for medicare insurance can receive it at no cost if they or their spouse paid in medicare tax while working.

You must sign up for Part B Medicare once you become elegible or you will have to pay a penalty. You must also pay a monthly premium for Part B. Part B covers outpatient car, doctor visits and even preventative care.

If you need additional coverage you can opt for a Medicare Gap Insurance plan, also called Medicare Advantage. These plans follow the rules of Medicare, but premiums differ from one private carrier to another.

Part D coverage is the most popular of the Medicare Gap Insurancepurchased. This is the Prescription coverage plan. If you have Part A & Part B you may purchase Part D independentaly.

The government is pulling away from Part C or Medicare Advantage which helps pay for out of pocket costs. But there are many other Medicare Gap Insurance that will pick up this loss of coverage. You can find individual plans through private insurance companies.
