I have been saying for years, give Google what they want and you will be rewarded.

Search Engine optimization is alot eaiser to understand, if you know a few simple prinicipals.

#1 : Google is King

#2: You are playing in their field (SERP’s), so you play by their rules.

Giving into and Understanding #1 and #2 will help a ton with the BIG PICTURE.

#3:  Google wants to index the world, and do it Quickly thus providing a SERVICE to its users and keeping its 87% market share. They make most of their millions on the 13% of the traffic that clicks on their ads every day, and the better they serve their users, the more they make. PRETTY SIMPLE!

So if you help Google meet their goals, they will like you. If you are doing something against those goals, they will make it harder and harder to stay on the FIELD.

A great example of that is the recent Panda update, that devalued about 12% of the sites and pages on the web. Well if your sites and pages are slow, and they offer NO REAL value to the GOOGLE users you are not helping Google, thus you got moved to the sidelines or in some cases to the parking lot.

If you are one of the people who got moved to the parkinglot,Deal with it! Just add value to your site, increase the quality content so it can help ther google user find what the are looking for and make it so it is quick and you may get back on the field. Well that is atleast 33% of the equation.

 We also understand google looks to the sites overall authority, meaning links from other authority sites and social signals. This makes total sense, if not think of SEo as a popularity contest, just like in high school. The more people who look to you as the popular one, the more popular you are.

So many people have gamed the system and gone out and got a ton of links from sites that have been moved to the sidelines or the parkinglot and guess what, they felt the pain to. Just like highschool all over again, if the person or group of people pointing to you as popular just got busted for DRUGS your image is going to be impacted. Same thing here, just deal with it and keep moving forward.

Give Google what they want !

Google wants to make thier customers happy. Provide quick, easy access to what the consumer is looking for.

Quick Checklist:

• Make your site fast (hardware does matter-NO $7.00 shared servers please)
• Provide value to a user, especially something that is not already in the space. NEW AND FRESH are gold!
• Start working on your bad relationships. You dont have to break them in every case, just make them better.
• OFF-LINE: Provide a good product or service, one good enough that your clients will RAVE about. If you do that, it may trigger social signals like Facebook links and Twitter re-tweets.
• Provide depth. Google is looking for AUTHORITY so give it to them. If those at the top of the SERP for your keyword have hundreds of research pages and content supporting their space then you need that much or more too.
• DO good stuff and the right type of sites will follow you, and even link to you.
• LINKING UP is a good thing. If you are aan expert in a field, but you know that your customers could benefit from another expert in a different field, it is totally natural that you link to them. Infact it is expected! If it helps the user and makes since, then it is just like the Soccor coach telling the Football coach,”Hey that kid can kick”. Those to coaches do totally seperate things, but it benefited bot of them to share that information, as well it helped the kid (THE USER).

I have spent the last 10 years trying to figure out Search Engine Optimization, and the day I gave into to #1 and #2, is the day we really started going in the right direction!
